Here is the second batch of Soviet troops from the Warlord Games Soviet starter Army. These troops are wearing the padded uniforms known as Telogreika. Some of the troops are wearing helmets and some are sporting ushanka hats or face wrappings. I'm going to use these troops as either regular or veteran troops. Some are carrying rifles such as the Mosin Nagant or SVT-40s. Others are carrying submachine guns like the PPSH-41 or the PPD-40. Some are carrying the DP-27 light machine gun and have loader assistants. There is one trooper carrying a liberated nazi Panzerfaust.

In this batch are also included two Dog Handlers.  The Dog Handlers have two dogs with explosives attached that can send the dogs to attack tanks. This batch also includes Lyudmila Pavlichenko.  This wwoman was a highly succesful Soviet sniper who killed 309 Axis soldiers including 36 snipers.  Her nickname was Lady Death.

I pretty much painted these according to the suggestions on the warlord games Soviet paint set website.

Here's the link:

Warlord Games Soviet WW2 Paint Set

I primed the models with Vallejo black primer 74-602 and an Iwata Eclipse Airbrush. Then I did a zenithal primer coat with Vallejo Grey primer 74-601 and finally a top down spray with Vallejo Grey primer 74-600.

Than, as with all of my Soviet models I used Instacure+ to glue 1 inch washers to the bottoms of the bases to give them so added heft.

After that the models were ready for the brush

As you can see I used Japan Uniform WW@ for the uniforms. I used black for the boots, hair and helmet straps.  I did their helmets in camo olive green and their leather straps I did with German, medium brown. For all of their webbing and straps a used khaki and for their bedrolls or backpacks I used English uniform Brown.  As always I used Vallejo gunmetal for their guns and mahogany for their rifle stocks. I used flat red for the stars on their ushanka caps and for the caps themselves I painted them with Vallejo Heavy Bluegray 72.144, washed them with Games Workshop Nuln Oil and drybrushed them with Vallejo Stonewall Grey 72.049.

  • Khaki Grey (Vallejo 880): Uniform and sidecap

  • Flat Red (Vallejo 957) Epaulette Piping and sidecap red star

  • Black (Vallejo 950): Boots

  • Camo Olive Green (Vallejo 894): Helmet

  • Khaki (Vallejo 988): Webbing

  • English Uniform Brown (Vallejo 921): Bedroll/greatcoat

  • Japan Uniform WWII (Vallego 923): Padded tunic or trousers

  • German Camo Medium Brown (Vallejo 826): SMG and rifle ammo pouches

After base coating I used a 60/40 mix of  Agrax Earthshade and Lahmian Medium on everything except for the gun metal parts. The gun metal Parts I shaded with 50/50 Nuln Oil and Lahmian medium. when all was said and done I used Vallejo Rough White Pumice  26.212 on the bases. this is an amazing hobby material as it can be painted up to look like mud or left white to look like snow. I then use Vallejo primer to paint the sides of the basis. Then I covered the whole of every model in floor polish,  let it dry and sprayed it with Testors Spray Lacquer AKA clear coat. The clear coat dulls that down back to a matte finish. Here are some pics:
